Renee Karibi-Whyte, a Director with the Legal Know-How group (Practical Law, Practice Point, West LegalEdcenter) of Thomson Reuters, has not had a typical law career. After graduating from Harvard Law School, she clerked in Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (Hon. Julian Abele Cook, Jr.) and then served as a Trial Attorney in the United States Department of Justice Honors Program where she focused on Environmental Defense. From there, she went overseas to work with the Hon. Gabrielle Kirk McDonald at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (a precursor to the International Criminal Court) in The Hague, Netherlands, during which time she helped draft the first decision of that tribunal. Upon returning to the United States, Renee worked at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP on the litigation team and later moved to a smaller law firm where she further honed her litigation skills. Thereafter, Renee used her diverse experiences and desire to help others in a different way, moving to the American Conference Institute and working with her team to research practical challenges lawyers face in their day-to-day practices and create programs to help them overcome those challenges. Renee continues that work in her current role with Thomson Reuters Legal, where she works with legal experts within and outside of Thomson Reuters on a weekly basis. Renee lives in New Jersey with her husband, four children, two dogs, hamster, and 40+ fish.
