From Facebook to Equifax, data privacy is a topic that is heavy on the minds of many as breaches occupy headlines more and more. In this interview from the ABA Section of Antitrust Law Spring Meeting 2018, host Alex Brown talks to Kevin O’Connor and Phyllis Marcus about data protection laws in the US and EU and how current events have affected regulation. Specifically, they discuss the General Data Protection Regulation that will drastically change data regulation in the EU and what US state and federal governments are doing to protect the privacy of children, including the Children Online Privacy Protection Act.
Kevin O’Connor is chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Practice Group at Godfrey & Kahn and has offices in both Madison and Milwaukee. He has more than twenty years of experience in antitrust, trade regulation, and consumer litigation and counseling.
Phyllis Marcus is a partner in the firm’s Competition and Consumer Protection group at Hunton & Williams, where her practice focuses on advertising, marketing and consumer protection issues. She also counsels clients on compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Rule and managing related enforcement actions.
