Jim Ham provides legal ethics and malpractice advice, and defends attorneys in State Bar discipline investigations and trial proceedings. He recently completed service as a Commissioner of the State Bar’s Commission on the Revision of the Rules of Professional Conduct, which produced a comprehensive redraft of California’s legal ethics rules. He also serves as Public Statements Chairperson of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, and has been active for more than 30 years on the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee. Jim has handled thousands of state bar investigations and inquiries, and has an exceptional record of trial success on behalf of respondents in State Bar Court. He previously taught legal ethics at USC’s Gould School of Law, is rated AV by Martindale Hubble and has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer every year since 2006. He was partner of Pansky Markle Ham LLP for nine years. Before that, he spent 10 years as a partner of Arnold & Porter, a national law firm. Jim acts as an expert witness on matters of attorney conduct and the standard of care, and speaks and writes regularly on the topic of legal ethics.
