Wayne Schiess is a senior lecturer at the University of Texas School of Law. He teaches legal writing, legal drafting, and plain English and speaks frequently on those subjects. He writes a monthly column on legal writing for Austin Lawyer magazine, and he has also written five books on practical legal-writing skills, including his most recent, “Legal Writing Nerd: Be One.” He graduated from Cornell Law School, practiced law at Baker Botts, and in 1992 joined the University of Texas School of Law faculty. From 2004 to 2016 he was director of legal writing.
