W. Scott Stornetta is considered to be one of the founding fathers of blockchain technology. Following his studies at Stanford University in 1989, Scott began working Bell Communications Research (BellCore), where he met Stuart Haber. Together, they researched and wrote on such subjects as cryptography and distributed computing. These works would later be heavily cited in the 2008 Bitcoin whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto. Scott and Stuart would go on to co-found Surety, a spinoff company from BellCore which is considered to be the first commercial blockchain service provider. Today, Scott serves as the Chief Scientist at Yugen Partners and has recently spent time teaching high school calculus and computer science in New Jersey.
