Thomas, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, has a rich legal heritage deeply rooted in the region. As an Alumni Scholar at the University of South Carolina, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and his Juris Doctor from the University’s School of Law. Following this, he served as a judicial clerk for Judge William L. Howard, Sr., gaining invaluable experience from over forty civil and criminal trials across South Carolina. His impressive legal career further flourished as he assumed the role of a commissioner for the City of Charleston, where he has been re-elected multiple times since 1999, demonstrating his commitment to public service and effective governance.
Currently serving as the Department Managing Attorney at Vernis & Bowling’s Charleston, SC office, Thomas is passionate about providing top-notch legal representation to a diverse clientele. With extensive expertise in civil and administrative trial practice, appellate practice, and various specialized areas such as Construction Defect, Personal Injury, Insurance Defense, and General Civil Litigation, Thomas has an impressive track record of more than sixty cases tried to verdict, over two hundred fifty mediations, and more than a dozen cases before arbitration panels. Recognized as a Certified Circuit Court Mediator by the South Carolina Supreme Court Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification, Thomas’s profound insights, acquired through three decades of experience and an in-depth understanding of the state’s legal landscape, prove invaluable in assessing individual cases for carriers.
