Roger Witten

Roger Witten is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. At the recommendation of his professor, Archibald Cox, he clerked for Judge Harrison Winter of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. When Cox was appointed Watergate Special Prosecutor, Judge Winter endorsed Witten to join Cox’s team. In 1975, Witten began his career at Wilmer Cutler & Pickering where he later became a partner. Based in Washington, D.C. and New York, his practice centered on complex civil and white-collar criminal cases. A recognized authority on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matters, Witten also played a prominent role in advocating for campaign finance reform, representing clients such as Senators McCain, Feingold, and Van Hollen, as well as organizations like Common Cause, Democracy 21, and the Campaign Legal Center. His most recent book is Legal Briefs: The Ups and Downs of Life in the Law.
