Professor Richard Susskind has worked on technology for lawyers since 1981. He holds professorships at Oxford, London, and Strathclyde universities, and has been Strategy and Technology Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England since 1998. He is President of the Society for Computers and Law and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute. He has written 10 books, including the best-sellers, The End of Lawyers (2008), The Future of the Professions (2015, with D Susskind) and Tomorrow’s Lawyers (2nd ed. 2017). His work has been translated into more than 10 languages. He has been invited to speak in over 40 countries, and has addressed more than 350,000 lawyers and other professionals. As Chair of an Advisory Group of the Civil Justice Council in England (2014-2015), Richard was the original architect of the idea of ‘online courts’, whose widespread introduction is now judicial and government policy. He has advised many of the world’s leading law firms and numerous large in-house legal departments. He obtained his first law degree from Glasgow University and his doctorate (in law and AI) from Oxford University in the mid-80s. In 2000, Her Majesty the Queen personally awarded Richard an OBE (an Officer of the Order of the British Empire), for services to IT in the law and to the Administration of Justice.
