Paul Weiland is assistant managing partner at the law firm of Nossaman LLP in Orange County, California, and a member of the Environment & Land Use Group. He has represented clients – including public agencies, publicly regulated utilities, corporations, trade associations and nonprofits – in high profile, precedent setting environmental permitting, regulatory, and litigation matters throughout California and across the nation.
Weiland has been published in dozens of peer reviewed publications on the subject in journals including Environmental Law Reporter, Harvard Environmental Law Review, Public Administration Review, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, BioScience, and Conservation Biology.
He is recognized for his expertise in wildlife permitting and litigation, having worked on matters involving the Bone Cave harvestman, delta smelt, Hawaiian hoary bat, the Mexican wolf, North Atlantic right whale, and other species. Prior to joining Nossaman, Weiland worked in the Law and Policy Section, Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Weiland earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern California, his doctoral degree at Indiana University, and his JD at Harvard Law School.
