Maricarmen Garza

Maricarmen Garza is chief counsel for the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence. She has spent more than 20 years in legal aid representing survivors of domestic and sexual violence. At the ABA, she is responsible for policy, program, and financial management, serving as an expert on gender-based violence and the law to ABA leadership and staff, attorneys, judges, legislators, the media, and others. 

Prior to joining the ABA CDSV, Garza served as chief of programs for the Tahirih Justice Center, the only national, multi-city organization providing direct legal services, policy advocacy, and training and education to protect immigrant women and girls fleeing gender-based violence. She has also worked with Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid (TRLA). 

Garza earned her JD at St. Mary’s University.
