Lori Young

Lori Young is passionate about the paralegal profession. With over 30 years of experience as a full-time paralegal and 20 years as an adjunct instructor, she currently serves as a full-time professor at College of the Canyons and a part-time assistant professor at UCSB Extension where she teaches in the ABA-approved Paralegal Studies programs. Lori retired as a senior paralegal in 2017 and transitioned to a second rewarding career in educating paralegal students.

Holding a master’s degree in paralegal studies from George Washington University, Lori is committed to advancing the paralegal profession and mentoring paralegal students to achieve academic excellence. In 2023, she received the NALA Certified Paralegal Champion award for her leadership in developing study courses for NALA’s Certified Paralegal exam. She accepted the award on behalf of her team at College of the Canyons, who launched these nationally accessible courses, offering them free to California residents and at a nominal fee for non-residents.

Lori is also a contributing author for The Paralegal’s Companion: Fundamentals for Legal Practitioners and Those Preparing for the CP Exam by NALA and serves on NALA’s School Relations Task Force. Additionally, she serves on various committees at College of the Canyons, including the Curriculum Committee, Center for Excellence and Teaching, and the Academic Standards Committee. Lori is also an active member of the Paralegal Studies Advisory Board for the University of California, Santa Barabara.

Outside of her professional life, Lori enjoys spending time with her family and friends, walking on the beach searching for sea glass, and reading legal thrillers.
