Jeremy B. Widder is a seasoned criminal defense attorney in Charles County, Maryland. Raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, Mr. Widder received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 2009 from Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, he represented clients in D.C. Superior Court and in federal parole revocation hearings as part of the Criminal Justice Clinic. Mr. Widder also clerked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Greenbelt, Maryland.
From 2009 until 2018, Mr. Widder was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Charles County, Maryland, where he tried sixty jury trials and hundreds of bench trials. He has taken to trial some of the most serious and infamous cases in the county. Some of these include murder, attempted murder, rape, arson, burglary, robbery, vehicular manslaughter, drug distribution, assault, and DUI. From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Widder was an attorney with The Law Office of Hammad Matin in La Plata, Maryland. He successfully represented hundreds of clients charged with offenses ranging from DUI to Murder.
Mr. Widder is active in the local legal community. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Jude House recovery center and the Executive Board for the Charles County Bar Association. He also serves on the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission. Mr. Widder has received recognition and coaching opportunities over the years to extend his experience and legal reach. In 2014, he was recognized for professional excellence as the inaugural Assistant State’s Attorney of the Year.
Mr. Widder is also a nationally renowned law school trial advocacy coach, with both American University Washington College of Law and Georgetown University Law Center. He coached the 2013 National Trial Competition National Champions, as well as the 2014 and 2015 regional champions and 2018 regional finalists. He also coached the 2015 National Civil Rights Competition champions. Mr. Widder is a regular featured speaker at the National Coaches Clinic. Mr. Widder lives in La Plata with his wife and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys growing vegetables and kayaking.
