Guy Miles was misidentified as the perpetrator of an armed robbery he did not commit and was arrested in 1998. He served over a decade in prison before mounting evidence of his innocence was properly reviewed. Despite having DNA evidence, admissions from the real perpetrators, a speeding ticket, a recanting investigator, and alibi witnesses supporting his account, the prosecution continued to fight against his release. On June 20th, 2017, he accepted a “People v. West” plea deal, which allowed him to maintain his innocence even as he legally admitted to guilt.
It took a speeding ticket, DNA evidence, and 18 years in prison to finally set him free.
