After graduating from Stanford Law School, David Elliot moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in commercial litigation. Four months later, he sold his first screenplay to Lawrence Bender and Quentin Tarantino’s A Band Apart Productions, and turned in his letter of resignation. He went back to his passion for cinema and screenwriting, which was born while he was an undergraduate at the University of Texas in Austin.
Before creating PROVEN INNOCENT, he wrote more than 40 screen and teleplays for many of the most successful producers and actors in Hollywood. He is a credited writer on three films which captured the No. 1 spot at the North American box office (“Four Brothers,” “G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” “The Watcher”). In addition, he co-directed the independent thriller “Catacombs” and co-produced “The Watcher” and the upcoming sci-fi thriller “IO.”
Elliot also served as a supervising producer on the first season of the cable series “Knightfall.”
He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Gia Vangieri, and their three dogs.
FOX's "Proven Innocent" creator David Elliot, California Innocence Project managing attorney Michael Semanchik, and real-life exoneree Jason Strong, talk about wrongful convictions and the inspiration behind the new show.
