Chief Justice Mary R. Russell

Chief Justice Mary R. Russell was appointed to the Supreme Court in September 2004.

  • Retained in office at the November 2006 general election and again at the November 2018 general election for a 12-year term expiring December 31, 2030
  • Served a two-year term as chief justice from July 2013 through June 2015; serving a second term as chief justice from July 2023 through June 2025
  • Previously served as a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, from 1995 to 2004 and as its chief judge from 1999 to 2000

She is active in the Conference of Chief Justices, the National Association of Women Judges, the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Chief Justice Russell is a member of Rotary, the Truman State University President’s Advisory Council and Grace Episcopal Church. She serves as a volunteer judge at Lewis and Clark Middle School’s truancy court.
