Margaret A. Burnham

Margaret A. Burnham is an attorney, a professor at Northeastern University School of Law, and the founder of the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project.  In 2021, she was nominated by President Joe Biden to be a member of the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board, a position for which she has since been Senate-confirmed.  She began her career at the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and served as the first African American woman to serve in the Massachusetts judiciary.

In 2022, Burnham released her first book, By Hands Now Known: Jim Crow’s Legal Executioners.
