Bobby T. Rimas is an Associate Professor at California State University Los Angeles and a Legal Studies Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of La Verne. He has been a paralegal professional for a large regional bank in Pasadena, California, for more than 17 years where he works in employment law-related matters, subpoena compliance, and intellectual property law. Previously, he served as a paralegal at an international employment-based immigration law firm for more than four years. In May, he will join a law firm in downtown Los Angeles that specializes in commercial litigation, civil rights litigation, class actions, and intellectual property law. He is the author of the Professional & Ethical Liability chapter of the National Association of Legal Assistants’ (NALA) Certified Paralegal Exam Fundamentals textbook and several social justice articles on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
From 2016 to 2018, Rimas served as the University of California, Los Angeles Pilipino Alumni Association’s public relations director and previously served as President/Chair and scholarship director. In 2018, he was elected to the board of the UCLA Lambda Alumni Association. He has served on NALA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and served as Vice Chair of the Special Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion of the Stonewall Democratic Club.
Rimas served as President of the Los Angeles Paralegal Association for six years and other positions such as Executive Vice President and NALA Liaison. He was awarded the 2013 NALA Affiliate Award for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the paralegal profession. During his tenure as LAPA President, the organization earned NALA’s Making a Difference Award for its pro bono, community service, scholarship, and educational programs. In 2017, Rimas earned LAPA’s Outstanding Leadership Award.
Rimas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from UCLA, a Paralegal Certificate in Litigation/Corporations from UCLA Extension, and a Master of Legal Studies degree, cum laude, with a Compliance & Legal Risk Management Concentration from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law.
