Hon. Joan V. Churchill

Hon. Joan V. Churchill served as Immigration Judge for the United States Immigration Court for Washington DC/Arlington VA for close to 25 years. During her tenure, she served 5 terms as a Temporary Member of the Board of Immigration Appeals. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the ABA National Conference of the Administrative Law Judiciary and Co-Chair of its Immigration Committee. She is also active with several other professional organizations, including the National Association of Women Judges [NAWJ] which she served as President.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Churchill’s career included private practice, government service, and academia. She graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, after completing her undergraduate work at the University of Michigan, during which she spent her junior year in France. She is a frequent speaker about immigration law issues. She has been selected as this year’s recipient of the NAWJ District 4 Edna Parker Award, which honors significant leadership in furthering the cause of justice in the DC/Maryland/VA area.
