Joseph Crespino, Jimmy Carter Professor of American History at Emory College, is a historian of the twentieth century United States and the American South since Reconstruction. He has written three books – Atticus Finch: The Biography—Harper Lee, Her Father, and the Making of an American Icon (Basic Books, 2018); Strom Thurmond’s America (Hill & Wang, 2012); and In Search of Another Country: Mississippi and the Conservative Counterrevolution (Princeton, 2007). He has also co-edited, with Matthew Lassiter, a collection of historical essays, The Myth of Southern Exceptionalism (Oxford, 2010).
