Melanie A. Hallas is an antitrust associate at McDermott Will & Emery. She counsels clients on mergers and acquisitions, as well as on antitrust issues in licensing, distribution, pricing and competitor collaborations.
Melanie has extensive experience with premerger notification, review and analysis under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act. She has defended mergers before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ), and has obtained regulatory clearance in industries that include various consumer products, paper products, natural gas distribution, and automotive parts and machinery. Melanie is also experienced in areas of e-discovery, document review and production for investigations before the FTC, DOJ and state attorneys general office.
Prior to joining private practice, Melanie was a staff attorney at the FTC where she investigated pending and consummated transactions in a variety of industries, including automobile, sports entertainment, technology and software, hospital equipment and chemicals.
While in law school, Melanie was the note and comment editor for the Iowa Law Review.
