Sam Gordon gained internet fame in 2012 as a nine year-old when a highlight video of her playing football against the boys went mega-viral. She was the first female football player to make the cover of Wheaties, won the Cartoon Network Hall of Game Award and her hometown even declared December 18th to be Sam Gordon Day. The NFL recognized Sam’s efforts to expand opportunities for girls in football by making her the first female to receive an NFL Honors Award and by including her in the NFL 100 Super Bowl commercial as a symbol for what the next 100 years of football will look like. Sam is also a standout soccer player and has made the Olympic Development Program’s West Region team where she was coached by former US Women’s National Team players and competed in international competitions against national team players. Sam is going to be a senior in high school, holds a perfect 4.0 GPA, and is excited to go on college campus tours later this summer.
Attorney Brent Gordon and his daughter, Sam Gordon, discuss girls high school football, their pending Title IX lawsuit, and the importance of fighting for change for girls in sports.
